| Users review: The film begins as a general and even pedestrian romantic comedy and seems to be on the road in typical cliche? drive direction, but fortunately, develops into something more. The character Jake Gyllenhaal and his alleged funny fat sidekick almost purposefully created as illustrations of what is wrong with most romantic comedies. His character Anne Hathaway as a catalyst for converting two-dimensional romantic comedy to something deeper and more fun. When she fleshed out (pun intended, for more Anne Hathaway nudity, the better) her character makes both Gyllenhaal character and the film itself to grow (almost like Viagra). What follows is deeply, sometimes moving and really interesting film. Comment on combating the disease, life and enjoy the moment, all relevant and sharp. Even minor characters are given moments to shine. Oliver Pratt pulled the rope is a great scene taken at dinner and theres even a clever drunken rambling explain what is wrong with the doctor and commentary on the state of the Hippocratic Oath. With the impartial and even boring beginning, this movie surprised me and worth the price of the ticket. |
